Fusion Drive-enabled computers can use the feature just like MacBooks

It has been revealed that OS X Mavericks will enable support for the “Power Nap” feature in iMacs dating from Late 2012 and on, so long as the computer has a Fusion Drive inside.

Previously available only to MacBooks with SSD storage, Power Nap is this cool background feature which lets your apps fetch new data as your computer goes to sleep.

For instance, mail, notes, reminders, and messages will all be updated and ready to display the latest information when your computer wakes from sleep. It’s also a power saving feature, something which benefits MacBook owners in particular, but now it appears it’s also coming to the desktop thanks to Mavericks.

According to MacRumors, any iMac with a Fusion Drive inside (SSD+HDD) can take advantage of the feature. Additionally, an “App Nap” feature further extends battery life for notebook users (also new in Mavericks).

OS X Mavericks is expected to launch sometime this month, most likely at Apple's October 22 event.
