Sleep/Wake crashes to be addressed in future update, Support rep says

An Apple Authorized Service Provider and an Apple Support rep have confirmed that a fix is on the way for the annoying sleep/wake issues affecting MacBook Air customers.

Citing information from an Apple Authorized Service Provider, MacRumors reveals that “Apple is preparing an update to fix an issue that causes 11 and 13-inch 2013 MacBook Airs to crash when they are wakened from sleep.”

Moreover, this person seemingly pinpointed the problem as being connected to “the sensor that detects when the lid is being opened.” Apple has even replaced some units, believing that this sensor was flawed on some systems. As it turns out, it isn’t.

As such, the bug will be addressed in a software update, according to a Support representative who “has also confirmed that a fix is in the works and should be bundled with the next OS X Mavericks update.”

The company is currently preparing OS X 10.9.2 for shipping, so it shouldn’t be long before the fix arrives. The problem has been solved since the release of Apple’s fourth 10.9.2 beta, according to some testers.

Apple on Tuesday seeded the seventh such beta to developers, asking them to focus on the same areas as before, including SMB2, Mail, Messages, Graphics Drivers, VoiceOver, and VPN.

OS X 10.9.2 will be offered as a free download to all Mavericks users when development on this update comes to an end. The tech giant usually spends a couple of months between these incremental updates, and if history is any indication, 10.9.2 should arrive by the end of this month, or in early March.

Next month, Apple also plans to deploy iOS 7.1, the first major update to iOS 7.0, which adds visual tweaks, some new options in the Settings panel, as well as numerous other small changes across the board.
