“To ensure that NeoOffice 3.2 works smoothly on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion”, the people at NeoOffice.org have released yet another new patch, this time fixing a bug that causes a "/" character to be silently appended onto the end of the file name that users set in the Save dialog.

Patrick, Fran, Ed, and Tim (The NeoOffice Team) explain on the NeoOffice.org Trinity forum that after the release of NeoOffice 3.2 Patch 3 last week, Apple released a new developer preview of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.

OS X 10.7 Developer Preview 4 is arguably the most stable and polished Lion build we’ve come across.

The final, public version of Lion will be almost identical to this build.

As such, developers such as those at NeoOffice.org are dedicated to ensuring full compatibility with the new OS.

“We did some testing of NeoOffice on this latest Lion developer preview release and found that Apple has made a change in the native Save dialog,” they write.

“This change causes a "/" character to be silently appended onto the end of the file name that you set in the Save dialog,” the development team acknowledges.

As a result of this, they’ve released Patch 4, which fixes this error.

“To ensure that NeoOffice 3.2 works smoothly on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion whenever it is released by Apple (and to protect against the possiblity [sic] that Apple may make this change in the next Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard system update), we have added code to prevent this unwanted "/" character from being appended in the native Save dialog and we have released this code in NeoOffice 3.2 Patch 4,” NeoOffice.org reveals.

As usual, NeoOffice 3.2 Patch 4 is offered through their official site’s download page.

Users of NeoOffice 3.1.2 are told to note that this Lion change does not affect their version of the productivity suite, therefore no patching will be required for them.

NeoOffice 3.1.2 is free to use by everyone on the planet. Version 3.2 is available only to the most generous donors to the open source effort.
