NCP engineering has announced that its entry IPsec VPN client and centrally-managed enterprise VPN client suite now fully supports the latest version of Apple’s Mac OS - Lion.

Founded in 1986, NCP engineering is responsible for some of the most innovative software that allows enterprises to rethink their remote access.

Thanks to the solutions provided by the German company, organizations can overcome the complexities of creating, managing and maintaining secure network access for staff.

Their Secure Mac Clients enable remote workers to securely connect to their corporate networks via any VPN gateway.

This is now done with a single click, according to NCP.

In addition to supporting strong authentication and a personal firewall, the NCP Secure Mac Clients comply with the standard’s requirements for government organizations and enterprises using FIPS inside.

“With the NCP Secure Enterprise Mac Client, administrators can centrally provision employees using OS X 10.7 Lion computers and automatically manage their secure remote network access,” the company said.

“The IPsec client software also bundles a configuration wizard, NCP’s Path Finder technology (which is used in conjunction with NCP’s VPN gateway) and Friendly Net Detection.”

The product is specifically aimed at end-users and organizations that wish to maintain secure remote network access, or require easy-to-use yet powerful VPN client software, while leveraging the latest breakthroughs in hardware and software - in this case, Intel Macs running Lion.

Dr. Avishai Wool of NCP engineering said in a blog post that the protection offered by firewalls “is only as good as the policy they are configured to implement.”

How you configure a firewall is said to be the single most important factor of its ability to provide a thick layer of security, “yet according to feedback provided by payment card brands and PCI auditing firms, 80 percent of firewalls examined in a breach investigation are misconfigured,” Dr. Avishai said.

Available today, the NCP Secure Entry Mac Client and NCP Secure Enterprise Mac Client also support OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard, the developers said.

A free, 30-day trial is available for the entry version of the IPsec VPN client suite. Interested parties can download immediately at this here link.

One of my colleagues at work did a firmware upgrade of his iMac under MacOS X Lion. He couldn't reboot due to an error with NCP (this can be seen in the boot log). It seems that NCP is a non-standard application. I would recommend to uninstall NCP from your Mac before performing a firmware upgrade.
