Apple is recruiting Mac Software Engineers with “a passion for quality”

You’d think Apple, who invented the Mac, at least has enough Mac Software Engineers on its payroll.

But you’d be wrong to think that. With millions of Macs sold every quarter and an upcoming Campus 2 set to house over 13,000 employees, Apple is on a constant recruiting spree for the best talents out there.

And the company’s Mac division is no exception to the rule.

According to a new advert posted today on Jobs at Apple, the Cupertino, California-based technology giant needs an engineer who is completely devoted to the Mac and its underlying software.

“The Macintosh Platform SW Team is seeking a Software Engineer to help ensure that Apple Mac systems continue to be world-class,” reads the ad.

“Weʼre looking for engineers with exceptional problem solving skills and a passion for quality.”

Key qualifications include a minimum of 6 years of related experience, board bring-up experience, HW debugging, the works.

Apple asks applicants to note that the position will require international travel about 10% of the time.

The advert continues, “You will play a central role in the design, development and deployment of Mac system software, boot firmware, Power Management, and system design.”

In regular fashion, the ad mentions the key responsibilities, such as “design, development, troubleshooting and debugging of software programs for Portable Mac products.”

The new recruit will “develop software tools, including operating systems, and firmware.”

No surprise there either. Apple needs all the manpower it can get, especially if rumors of iOS 7 feeding off the Mac engineering team are true. OS X 10.9 is certainly just as important.

“The successful candidate must understand CPU and System power management and will also determine hardware compatibility and/or influence hardware design,” the job posting reads.

The position has some particularities too. For example, this staffer will not only do all of the above, but will also make video plugins.

“He/she should be comfortable with HW based debugging. In his role, you will be interfacing with software and hardware designers to develop algorithms and architectures for hardware video codecs.”

As far as education is concerned, BSCE or BSEE is required. If you think you’ve got what it takes to get Apple’s attention, you can submit a resume here.
