Yesterday, Cupertino-based Apple unveiled plans to launch the long expected OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion operating system as soon as today.

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, announced not only that the new Mac OS flavor would be released on July 25, 2012, but also that the new iOS 6 would become available this fall.

OS X 10.8 was showcased for the first time in early 2012, when Apple said that it would arrive with over 200 new features packed inside.

In the meantime, the company also provided info on each of these enhancements, while unveiling that the platform would be available for $19.99.

Users will be able to purchase the new OS through the Mac App Store starting today. Those who bought a new Mac in the past several weeks will receive the upgrade for free.
