Handed to developers for testing earlier this week, OS X 10.8.3 build 12D76 reportedly contains new graphics drivers that allow Mountain Lion to support NVIDIA's high-end Quadro K5000 card.

MacRumors says its forum users were the first to spot the new drivers in Apple’s latest OS X 10.8.3 beta, adding that the first developer build (which Apple dropped in November 2012) added AMD Radeon 7000-series drivers.

In other words, Apple has been making quite a few inroads for new graphics support in Mac Pro workstations. Once thought to be abandoned, the powerhouse computer might just get its much deserved upgrade in tandem with the release of OS X 10.8.3.

The Quadro K5000 packs a slew of innovative features, including SMX for increased per-clock throughput of key graphics operations.

The GPU can reference textures directly in memory, thanks to bindless textures, and the card also supports up to four displays.
