Customers advised to hold off upgrade until all bugs are ironed out

Soon after the launch of OS X 10.8.2, the second maintenance update to Mountain Lion, CrossOver customers reported issues with the performance of the application. CodeWeavers, the developers, have confirmed the issue and are advising everyone who hasn’t yet upgraded to sit still.

CrossOver is a Wine-based application that creates “bottles” that simulate the Microsoft Windows environment on a Mac to run Windows applications.

An email from CodeWeavers CEO Jeremy White confirms that “This release [OS X 10.8.2] prevents CrossOver from operating any application that uses 3D functions. In short, it breaks CrossOver.”

The company says it is “working with Apple” to resolve the issue as fast as possible, adding that “if your Mac asks you to upgrade the operating system, we urge you to say no until we can resolve this issue.” Customers can track the development progress at this address.

In related news, Oracle also acknowledged a bug caused by OS X 10.8.2 in their virtualization software, VirtualBox for Mac. Unlike CodeWeavers, however, they already have a patch.

Update: CodeWeavers has released the patch. Get downloading!
