Apple to release its maintenance update around September 19

When Apple ships OS X 10.8.2, the second incremental update for Mountain Lion, a lot of customers will be happy. The updates brings something for everyone, including pesky Twitter trolls.

If you’re using Mountain Lion’s Notification Center to send out tweets, here’s a bit of good news for you. Not only will the 10.8.2 version receive Twitter notifications for mentions and replies from anyone, it will also shorten URLs automatically when sending tweets from Notification Center.

That may not sound like much at first but, trust me, the faster you can get that word out, the better.

10.8.2 is also a compatibility release that allows OS X and iOS 6 to talk the same language in some instances, such as when you want to connect a new-generation iPhone or iPod. Expect it to drop around September 19 (the iOS 6 launch date).
