Users to get an option to discard the changes in the original document

For about a year now, Apple has been accused of messing up “Save As” in its Mac operating system, time and time again. It seemed that no matter how Apple would try and fix it, the feature never worked as well as before.

OS X 10.8.2 aims to change all that. After a few blunders spanning several incremental updates, as well as a major upgrade (Mountain Lion), Apple finally thinks it’s got it right.

While Save As is still less accessible in Mountain Lion, Apple is fixing a problem that affected the way the original file was saved on disk.

According to the release notes for OS X 10.8.2, an upcoming update to Mountain Lion, users will be getting “an option to discard the changes in the original document when choosing Save As.”

Since it’s also a compatibility release tied to iOS 6, OS X 10.8.2 will be released no later than September 21 – around the time Apple is expected to ship the iPhone 5 and its new iOS.
