Seas0nPass, a simple jailbreak tool for the 2nd-generation Apple TV developed by FireCore has been updated with full support for Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion).
Seas0nPass provides an 'un-tethered' jailbreak for the latest iOS firmware that specifically targets Apple TV devices.
The original Apple TV did not use iOS, but a video-centric component borrowed from Mac OS X - Front Row.
Removed from OS X with the announcement of version 10.7 (Lion), Front Row remains a useful application on OS X Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard machines.
The second-generation Apple TV, however, uses a stripped down version of the iOS mobile operating system that was originally developed for the iPhone.
iOS currently powers almost every Apple portable from the iPod nano to the iPod touch, from the iPhone to the iPad.
In addition to fully supporting Lion, Seas0nPass 0.7.7 resolves some iTunes script issues and some minor bug fixes, according to the release notes.
To jailbreak their Apple TV using Seas0nPass, users must first ensure they are using a silver (aluminum) AppleTV remote.
According to
FireCore, the older white (plastic) AppleTV remotes are missing the dedicated play/pause button and will not work.
When using Seas0nPass on Mac OS X, users must also disable the 'remote control infrared receiver' option (System Preferences --> Security --> General).
There are a lot of Mac-specific issues to be taken into consideration, therefore users should proceed with caution.
