In usual Apple manner, the latest OS X update adds new support for RAW image formats spit out by the best-of-breed cameras, and OS X 10.7.3 is no different.

The company headquartered at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, California has added eleven new cameras to the list of supported devices under Lion, six of which are compact mirrorless models, according to Cnet.

The models that do away with the flip-up mirror and optical viewfinder are the Nikon 1 J1 and V1, the Olympus Pen E-PL1s, E-PM1, and E-PM1; and the Sony Alpha NEX-5N. The full list of cameras supported under Lion is here.

For those who don’t know, “digital camera RAW formats retain more image information than JPEGs and can produce better results when used with imaging applications such as Aperture and iPhoto,” according to Apple. OS X Lion provides this kind of support on an operating system-level.
