Apple's keynote speech at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2015 event that takes place this week between June 8 and June 12, 2015, in San Francisco, USA, at the Moscone West Center, brought us detailed information about the great new features, new apps, and new services that come to Apple's products.

The upcoming major version of the OS X operating system for Mac computers was unveiled today by Apple, dubbed El Capitan. OS X 10.11 promises to bring awesome new features like Split View, new gestures, tabbed email composing, the ability to pin tabs in Safari, Metal API for gaming, Force Touch APIs for Safari, and App Extensions for Photos.

"OS X El Capitan brings Metal to Mac, giving your apps unprecedented graphics and computing power. With Swift 2.0, you can write even better code thanks to advanced new features. New extensibility APIs let your apps work seamlessly with Photos and Safari," says Apple.

As Apple noted during the WWDC 2015 keynote, a first Beta of the forthcoming OS X 10.11 "El Capitan" operating system is available for download starting today, June 8, 2015, for all developers, and a Public Beta will come in July for everyone else.

All developers can download OS X 10.11 Beta today

Therefore, if you're a developer, you can log into your Apple Developer account and download the new OS X 10.11 "El Capitan" Beta Build 15A178w for your Mac computers. However, please note that this is a pre-release version that has rough edges, and it is not recommended for production environments.

Be aware though that you won't be able to revert to a previous version of the OS X operating system once you've updated your Mac to El Capitan. You can find all the details you need on the dedicated page on the Apple Developer website.
