And it looks pretty good

Almost as good as a cell phone. I have to say that the looks alone never made me think that a portable product could be better, but this tiny machine looks kind of special. And I'm not just saying that because it's the smallest x86 PC in the world (although that part is true). When I was a child, I always dreamed of having a device capable of doing all the job that a PC does and still fit in the palm of my hand. And I wasn't talking about a Symbian or a Windows CE device. I simply wanted a very small PC.

This new version of the smallest PC in the world now comes preinstalled with a Via CPU and a docking station. It is a big upgrade for a small PC (and yes, you can call it a PC). It is running Windows XP, with Via's C7 CPU clocked at 1GHz (although initial rumors suggested that a faster 1.5GHz version was going to be integrated in the device), comes with 1GB of RAM, and a 60GB HD.

Manufacturers claim that it should run Vista just fine but don't think it will work as fast as a Core 2 CPU. And the Aero interface is out of the question. Regarding the connectivity the device has been updated in this sector too and now it supports EVDO. This is truly an advantage because you can stay connected wherever you have signal on you cell phone. On the other hand, I would have liked to see HSDPA/3G/Edge connectivity, but I guess that would take a lot more space. The new docking station replaces the ports found on the older model. Nice addition to what might end up being not only the smallest PC but also one of the most successful portables ever.
