Earlier this year, OCZ introduced one of the most high-tech devices designed for gamers, the NIA, or Neural Impulse Actuator. Designed to be used in conjunction with the mouse, the NIA aimed at enhancing a users gaming skills. In other words, it works by translating the electrical biosignals of ones body into computer commands, thus making the keyboard be of no use whatsoever.
However, OCZ was not the first to release such a device, since a company called Emotiv also launched its first brain-controlled video gaming headset this past February. Dubbed the EPOC, this one came with a suggested retail price tag of $299. Still, it appears that the NIA has been more successful with the public, as countless fans showed their interest in the new device. This is precisely the reason why the company had recently decided to promote its product in a more uncommon fashion, by launching the "Win With The nia!" contest.
Gamers using OCZ's device in nearly 45 LAN parties in Europe and North America will get a chance to win thousands of dollars in prizes. In fact, gamers coming on first place in a global/national LAN party using the Neural Impulse Actuator developed by OCZ will have the chance to win a $2,000 prize, along with an OCZ DIY Gaming Notebook + Memory. But the second spot will also get an impressive prize: $1,000 + Memory + PSU. If you succeed in reaching the number three spot in a global or national LAN party, OCZ will give you a chance to win one of its own Memory and PSUs.
While the contest is undoubtedly unique, we must not forget that, in the end, it is a good way in which the company can promote its product. As a reminder, gamers will have to provide their own NIA device, which goes for approximately $150 at different retailers. So, in the end, this is a win-win situation for OCZ, as it manages to accomplish two things with one fun contest: boost the number of sold units and promote the product.
