Drobo, a well-known manufacturer of data storage products for businesses and professionals, has just announced that its high-performance B1200i iSCSI-enabled SAN solutions can now be configured to feature OCZ’s Talos SAS 6Gbps SSD.

The B1200i is the first Drobo product to leverage the benefits of SSDs in order to deliver increased bandwidth, lower power consumption, and lower access times.

Up to 12 200GB OCZ Talos solid state drives can be installed at the same time in Drobo’s SAN device to deliver a total of 2.4TB of storage space.

No details regarding the performance of the B1200i when paired together with OCZ’s SSDs were provided by its maker, but the Drobo SAN is expected to deliver outstanding random read/write performance.

According to OCZ, a single Talos solid state drive can reach up to 50,000 sustained read/write IOPS with incompressible 4K files sizes, and 34,000 sustained mixed read/write IOPS with incompressible 8K files.

In addition to their impressive performance, Talos SSDs also support a series of advanced failsafe features, which prevent data loss in the event of a power outage.

"Drobo is a leader in data storage products for both professionals and businesses and we are thrilled that they have qualified and selected our enterprise-class Talos SAS SSDs for their business oriented solutions," said Ryan Petersen, CEO of OCZ Technology.

"This collaboration is a perfect example of how our SSD technology can act within a complete solution to deliver superior application-optimized storage for small- and medium-business IT," concluded the company’s rep.

No detail regarding the prices of the Talos-equipped Drobo B1200i storage solutions have been made available so far, but these should become available quite soon through the company’s network of authorized distributors and resellers.
