OCZ and Symwave plan to join forces in an effort to come up with ever better, faster and more storage-capable, USB 3.0-compatible devices. The two plan to combine the flash-based storage technologies of OCZ with Symwave's expertise in silicon system solutions in order to develop the world's highest performing Solid State Drive (SSD). They also intend to showcase their product during the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada, from January 7-10, 2010.

“Thanks to Symwave’s industry leading USB 3.0 storage controller, our external SSD device delivers 10x the transfer rate of USB 2.0 at 5Gb/s, as well as several ‘green’ improvements including superior power management and lower CPU utilization,” Eugene Chang, vice president of product management at the OCZ Technology Group, said. “We are determined to be at the forefront of the market by offering products with unparalleled performance, reliability, and design to unleash the potential of flash-based storage.”

The new USB 3.0 standard, with its ability to run at speeds ten times better than the USB 2.0, offers flash-based memory makers a larger set of possibilities in the creation of external storage modules. Developers are no longer restricted in their efforts to develop high-speed storage by the limited transfer rates of the connectivity options (there is no point in a lightning-fast storage device if the connection port only runs at 10% of its speed). With Symwave's assistance, OCZ was able to supplement its cutting-edge storage know-how and is now ready to start building modules perfect for those customers who are interested in top-end technology above everything else (including prices).

“OCZ’s products are synonymous with high performance. Combining our USB 3.0 controller with their SSD technology, both architected for performance without compromise, is a perfect match,” John O’Neill, vice president of marketing at Symwave, added. “CES will be a showcase for new and innovative products that provide consumers with a dramatically improved user experience. Symwave is committed to delivering silicon and software solutions that will transform the way consumers view and use USB storage devices.”

The two companies will individually demonstrate the product during the CES, at the Las Vegas Aria Hotel and Hilton Hotel, suite 2900.
