OCZ Technology Group has recently pointed out the fact that they will re-enter the VGA card business. But what they didn't say at first is that they intent to launch their first new video cards with specifications that are higher than Nvidia's standard. As some of you may know, for various
safety reasons, Nvidia has forbidden the factory overclocking of the 8800 GTX/GTS cards. And OCZ are the first ever to overrule that limitation.
"We are going to do speed-up sorted G80 cards," said sources inside OCZ. Big words for the high-end memory and PSU manufacturer who has retreated from the VGA market in 2001 when its Geforce 3 Ti series didn't sell well on the market. But it seems that the latest achievements have made OCZ very confident about the future since they also stated: "Right now we feel it's a great time to re-enter the market."
As I've previously said, Nvidia doesn't allow overclocking on G80 based cards, especially after the major fiasco about the pre-overclocker 7900 cards. But I guess that OCZ has found a way around the problem since they may not exactly offer pre-overclocked cards but rather pre-tested ones.
"We have worked on this first [pre-overclocked] G80 card, which we are not allowed by Nvidia to pre-overclock; so we are just 'speed screening' them and not tweaking them ourselves, but leaving that for end-users," indicated several sources inside OCZ.
In order to differentiate the boards, card manufacturers generally offer more overclocking potential as standard. And with the help of its cooling experience, OCZ might just bring the best G80 performer.
