Although most of the news that come to us from the performance SSD sector have SandForce written all over them, there are other controller manufacturers out there that can muster top notch performance out of solid state drives, Indilinx being one of them, OCZ just announcing us they have refreshed their Indilinx-based Vertex and Colossus SSD series to offer improved performance at an more affordable price point.

In order to achieve this, OCZ went with “latest flash memory” (whatever that may mean) as well as some firmware improvements that should boost the 4KB random write IOPS performance of their new Vertex Plus drives.

Although the company doesn't provide us with any numbers regarding its performance we do know the new Colossus Plus, that features an internal RAID-0 design, can offer over 20,000 4KB random write IOPS, making this solution a lot more competitive with SandForce based drives especially when price is taken into consideration.

"The original Vertex and Colossus series of Solid State Drives set the benchmark for performance and reliability, and quickly became top-selling solutions for customers seeking all the benefits of SSD technology over traditional rotational media both in mobile and desktop computing," said Ryan Petersen, CEO of OCZ Technology Group.

"The new Vertex Plus and Colossus Plus further improve on already popular products by delivering higher performance with the latest NAND technology, and make SSDs even more accessible to customers with a lower cost per gigabyte."

Finally, the 2.5 inch Vertex Plus will be available in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB capacities, while the Colossus Plus will go up to 1TB (1024GB) of capacity in a 3.5-inch form factor.

If you want to learn more about how these drives perform than you can take a look at Anandtech, as the website has a preview of the OCZ Vertex Plus available, benchmarks included.
