As already noted in a number of our previous posts, Solid State Drives are becoming increasingly more affordable and better than normal hard disk drives. This is why companies such as OCZ or Intel are constantly looking to update their offers for the storage market with new, better and overall cheaper SSDs.
OCZ is one of the leading manufacturers of flash-based products and its presence in this segment of the market is signaled by a range of Core Series SATA II 2.5 SSDs. Its latest addition to an already impressive lineup has been dubbed Core V2 and will provide users with new architecture that can boost the read speed to 170 MB/s, while write speeds reach a generous 98 MB/s. Furthermore, the storage capacity will reach a maximum of 250GB.
"OCZ continues the trend of enabling consumers with the latest in cutting edge solid state disc technology with the introduction of the new Core V2 SSD," said Ryan Petersen, CEO of the OCZ Technology Group. "As SSD technology progresses, OCZ will continue to release updated and enhanced solutions to ensure our customers stay on the leading edge. The new Core V2 drives offer consumers and system integrators increased capacities up to 250GB, improved read and write performance and faster seek time, all coupled with a new mini USB port empowering customers with the ability to further improve performance and compatibility by updating firmware in the future." he further added.
The new Core V2 series solid state drives have been designed to offer maximum reliability, as well as a number of performance-related features. Besides the impressive read and write speeds, OCZ claims that its new SSDs have an excellent MTBF of 1.5 million hours.
Despite not offering concrete details regarding pricing and availability, OCZ has stressed that its new drives provide an impressive performance level, while having a 50% lower price per gigabyte than other high-speed offerings currently on the market.
