OCZ Technologies, the well known manufacturer of high end PSUs and memory modules announced today a new release consisting of an 850W PSU included
at the top of GameXStream line. Theres not much you can say about this PSU that you cant already tell by looking at it, its huge in size and yes, it delivers. Use it only if you have in mind a seriously high end PC and you really enjoy overclocking.

OCZs launch is far from coincidental since it comes exactly ahead of the mass release of G80 based video cards. And its for sure that such a video card, especially when running on SLI mode, drains quite a lot of power from the +12V lines. Quad SLI might be a match for this PSU, nothing less. All this power comes at a moderate noise since this time OCZ used a single 120mm fan to keep the transformers and coils cool. At the moment of launching, the PSU OCZ said:

A new generation of gaming systems is emerging with the lion share of the power being drawn by the graphics system, commented Dr. Michael Schuette, VP of Technology Development at OCZ Technology. Quad SLI and high-end CrossFire solutions are pushing up to 500W of power consumption which exceeds the capabilities of any conventional high-end power supply. Moreover, by the end of the year we will see PC games specifically developed for quad core CPUs. OCZ's answer is the new GameXStream top model with 850W output to make sure that even the hungriest systems get the power they need under the most demanding conditions.

Price tag is unknown at this moment, but you might very well pay over $200 for this 850W monster, since its little 700W brother is priced at around $160.
