OCZ just proved that it hasn't only been working on TLC NAND Flash chips, having also finished the latest PCI Express SSD series, named RevoDrive 3 Max IOPS.

The new solid state drives that OCZ created are a series that operate on the PCI Express x4 interface.

They are called RevoDrive 3 Max IOPS and RevoDrive 3 X2 Max IOPS.

The former covers the 120 GB to 480 GB capacity range, while the latter, predictably stronger (the name implies it well enough) has 240 GB to 960 GB models.

The VCA 2.0 technology (Virtualized Controller Architecture) is their main asset, as it lets them read data at up to 1,900 MB/s and write it at a maximum of 1,725 MB/s.

In other words, they completely blow away the already formidable data rates of the regular RevoDrives, which work at up to 1 GB/s and 925 MB/s, respectively.

“The new RevoDrive 3 Max IOPS solid state drives further expand on our original PCIe series, and are designed to deliver even more bandwidth for the most demanding applications,” said Daryl Lang, VP of Product Management, OCZ Technology Group.

“Engineered to leverage the benefits of multi-threaded processors and applications, the Max IOPS provides both the performance and features required by clients to address the most intensive workloads common in high performance computing and workstation environments.”

The RevoDrive 3 Max IOPS and RevoDrive 3 X2 Max IOPS get the 'Max IOPS' part for how their 4KB random write performance is of 245,000 IOPS (input output operations per second).

Unfortunately, the official press release did not say exactly what prices can be expected from them, though it is obvious enough they will be huge.

Then again, being what they are, enterprise applications, like servers and data centers, are the expected business outlets, not the consumer segment. The company did mention the 3-year warranty though.
