OCZ has just issued a new firmware release for its high-performance Vertex 3 and Agility 3 drives, based on the second-generation SandForce SSD processors, that should fix all the problems faced by its users until now.

The company confirmed the fact that the two SSDs are affected by a series firmware issues at the end of last week. These problems ranged from BSODs and BIOS detection errors to random freezes and RAID failures.

To resolve these issues, OCZ has been working with SandForce in order to release a new firmware version, which was announced recently.

“OCZ has been working closely with SandForce and they have provided us with a new firmware drop (2.08) that addresses a number of the outstanding issues.

“We are recommending that all customers update to this latest firmware. We encourage any customers that are experiencing any issues to please come directly to us, and if you have any issues updating also come to us and we will be happy to support you,” reads the company's official statement.

Together with the revised 2.08 firmware, OCZ has also introduced a new version of the Toolbox application that is used for flashing the FW.

This can be downloaded from the OCZ forums (link here), where users will also find detailed instructions regarding the update procedure.

OCZ is not the only company to experience problems with the second-generation SandForce SSD controllers, as Corsair's 120GB version of the Force 3 solid state drive also suffered from similar problems.

In Corsair's case, the bad firmware was accompanied by a PCB issue which forced the company to recall the drives from the market.

Earlier today, however, Corsair has announced that it has resumed shipping of the affected SSD and that this is expected to arrive on major retailer's shelves the next week. (via SweClockers)
