OCZ Reduces DDR2 Latencies to CL3

When the first DDR2 memories appeared on the market, consumers weren't at all impressed with the performance improvements over the DDR modules. This was mainly because of the DDR2 latencies that are significantly bigger than the DDR ones. Although DDR2 memories can be clocked at impressive frequencies, the latencies still remain a bit of a problem.

OCZ Technology Group is willing to change all that with the introduction of the CL3 specifications PC2-6400 Flex XLC memory modules. The improved OCZ Flex
XLC CL3 modules are engineered to deliver performance gains by implementing Enhanced Performance Profiles (EPP) and allowing the memory to operate at a stable 800MHz with CL3 specifications upon start up. OCZ claims that the new memories work best on the latest NVIDIA nForce SLI platforms, as they were specifically developed and tested on the 680i platform.

"We are pleased to be the first on the market offering a reasonably priced CL3 800Mhz solution with EPP Support," commented Dr. Michael Schuette, VP of Technology Development at OCZ Technology. "The new OCZ PC2-6400 Flex XLC CL 3 Kits are the fastest system memory available when it comes to effective bandwidth in non-streaming applications. OCZ CL 3 Flex modules deliver superior performance in games with out the need for massive overclocking."

As with all the latest OCZ memory modules, the CL3 memories feature the proprietary Flex XLC (Xtreme Liquid Convention) heat sink technology, which delivers superior heat dissipation via a hybrid copper and aluminum design, switching between passive air and water cooling.

The PC2-6400 Flex XLC CAS 3 modules will only come in 2GB (2x1024MB) dual-channel kits, as part of OCZ's line-up of premium memory. Here is the full specs list:
