OCZ will mainly focus on SSDs, PSUs and RAM

Nowadays, OCZ is mostly known for its memory and storage products. The company has been especially active in the area of solid state drives, with the latest products being extremely fast PCI Express Z-Drive SSDs and even a device aimed at the consumer market, known as the Onyx. However, some might remember that the company also released, in the past, other products such as peripherals and even full PCs. Now, however, it seems that the company's PC arm has reached the point of no return.

Or at least the point of total obscurity. Hypersonic was bought by OCZ in 1996 and, since then, it has released a number of desktops and notebooks. Unfortunately, but fortuitous for the entire IT firm as a whole it seems, OCZ seems to have finally decided to scrap this business unit in order to better focus on what it does best, namely RAM, SSDs and power supplies. The main culprit behind the fall of Hypersonic is, unsurprisingly, the difficult economy. TechGage even managed to get in touch with the memory and storage-solution developer in order to confirm the rumors.

"We are focusing all our resources on SSD, PSU and Memory and our SI business really didn’t fit into the spectrum of things." Alex Mei, OCZ's executive VP and CMO, said. "While we are ceasing marketing and sales efforts for Hypersonic we are still taking care of all customers that have Hypersonic product[s], all their full warranties are still good and we are making sure that everyone that purchased a Hypersonic solution is taken care of."

The Hypersonic website has also been mostly stripped down, with only a page remaining that confirms that warranties and customer service will continue to be honored. There are also rumors that OCZ's peripheral and cooling branch might come to the same untimely end, although they are still unconfirmed.
