The drive uses normal SATA III technology and Toshiba chips

With Toshiba owning OCZ now, the latter can use the former's best technologies in order to strengthen its brand, unless Toshiba decides to subsume said brand into itself at some point.

For now, OCZ has prepared a new solid state drive series, one that might be welcomed rather ambivalently by connoisseurs.

The drive is supposed to be a fresh start, and yes, OCZ chose to base it on the existing Vertex 460 line.

Still, the Vertex 460A does have something new to offer, namely new 19nm NAND Flash chips from Toshiba, called Toshiba A19 series MLC NAND. MLC stands for multi-level cell.

Unfortunately, OCZ did not share information on the specifications or even the pricing scheme of the new drives. It didn't even say what capacities we should be looking for.

Given past history for 19nm-based storage units, however, it's a safe bet to assume that 256 GB or larger drives will exist, with read/write speeds of over 500 MB/s.

All drives bear the OCZ ShieldPlus warranty, which means that providing the serial number will lead to an immediate replacement if the drive is proven to be defective, whether or not you still have the purchase receipt. Not such a big deal, considering how religiously people hold onto those things when it's important. Besides, vendors usually staple them to the contract or box anyway.

Still, it's good to know you won't be left in the dust if you lose your paperwork in a fire or to a crazy dog or something.
