Breaking the kilowatt barrier

As a famous movie line once said, "all you need is 1.21Gigawatts". Well, we haven't reached these power requirements just yet, modern PC trends are directed towards reducing power consumption while maintaining or enhancing productivity or performance, or both for that matter. In this game of taking over more aspects of a market as possible, OCZ Technology Group has entered with the mass production of power supplies. But the main product that gave this company recognition still remains its memory modules.

They have announced the addition of a 1.01kW power supply to their line of products, the GameXStream family. This model comes equipped with a massive 120mm internal fan, has four 12V rails handling 18A each, active Power Factory Correction (PFC), 2 x PCI-E (6-pin) connectors, 6 x 4-pin peripheral, 2 x 4-pin floppy and 6 x Serial ATA. It's a high efficiency power supply with 80% efficiency at 110V and 83% efficiency at 230V. All of these features are backed-up by a three year warranty through the PowerSwap replacement program offered by OCZ.

The power supply is compatible with the ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V standards and it's also pending NVIDIA SLI certification. It also features Overvoltage, Overcurrent and Short-Circuit protection. The missing element from this beautiful display of power is the modularity part of it, since some people might not use each and every power cable available, and at one point, they kinda get in the way. The cables are nevertheless sleeved so this evens out the balance a little bit.

"OCZ is pleased to announce the launch of the GXS 1010W PSU, the latest power supply in the GameXStream series," commented Alex Mei, VP of Marketing, OCZ Technology Group. "The GXS 1010 surpasses the power requirements of even the most power hungry next generation components allowing the unit to easily scale with high performance rigs as they are continually upgraded."
