Deliver lower power consumption and faster access time

Olive Media has decided to switch over to OCZ’s Deneva 2 SSDs in their O4HD and O6HD music servers in an attempt to improve the overall consumer experience of their media players while also decreasing power consumption.

The O4HD and O6HD HD audio servers will be available with either 240GB or 480GB of storage provided by a single Deneva 2 solid state drive.

According to the company, when configured with the higher capacity drive, the servers will be able to store up to 1,500 albums in high-quality formats.

Olive Media has motivated its switch to SSDs by saying that these drives offer lower power consumption, faster access times, and lower noise over traditional HDDs.

While all these reasons are indeed true, we can help it but thinks about the high prices and low capacities associated with SSDs, which doesn’t make them such a great option for a media server.

Outside of OCZ’s Deneva 2 SSDs, Olive’s O4HD and O6HD music sharing stations also feature Digital-Analog-Converters (DACs), low-noise power supplies as well as a built-in touchscreen.

"We are very excited to work together with OCZ Technology Group," stated Dr. Oliver Bergmann, co-founder and CEO of Olive.

"OCZ has consistently led the SSD market with innovative technology and best-in-class performance.

“The Deneva 2 series offers the ideal storage upgrade for our HD music servers, combining superior music access performance, reliability and reduced electronic noise emission for the ultimate music listening experience," concluded the company’s rep.

The new Olive HD music servers with SSD technology are available in limited quantities directly from the company, but sadly Olive hasn’t provided us with a price for these units.

However, given the already high prices associated with Olive HD products we wouldn’t expect these to be anything but outrageously expensive.
