In order to provide power users with a new kind of solid state drives that can combine speed, reliability and efficiency with affordability, OCZ has presented the Vertex Limited Edition SSDs. Touted as the “ epitome of innovation,” the Limited Edition is a follow-up to the Vertex Series, is “based on a cutting-edge new architecture” and uses the latest controller technology. The new product family is made up of two members, but they both use multi-level cell NAND Flash chips and operate on the SATA 3Gb/s interface.

The Vertex Limited Edition line boasts solid state drives with storage capacities of 100GB and 200GB. These storage units have maximum read speeds of 270MB/s and maximum write speeds of 250MB/s. The drives even reach 15,000 IOPS (4K random write), for an “excellent throughput and ultra-responsive performance.” In addition, the Vertex LE drives can easily work on existing mobile and desktop platforms and their performance is maintained over time thanks to their full support for TRIM.

“OCZ has an excellent reputation as a leader in solid state drives, and as new technologies become available, we are continually expanding our solution portfolio to bring enhanced performance benefits to the complete spectrum of our client’s applications,” Ryan Petersen, CEO of the OCZ Technology Group, commented. “The new Vertex Limited Edition SSD is our fastest, multi-level cell (MLC), performance-based drive yet and delivers both exceptional speed and reliability for customers demanding a superior storage solution including intensive applications such as audio/video editing, mobile computing, and even use in workstations.”

As their name implies, the OCZ Vertex Limited Edition solid state drives will only be available for a short time, but all models are backed by a three-year warranty. The 200GB version is already available for pre-order on Amazon at a price of $919.99.
