San Jose, California-based OCZ Technology has just announced the introduction of a new series of NAND Flash-based Solid State Drives, providing consumers with a choice for an affordable SLC (single-level cell) storage solution. Dubbed Agility EX, the new range of solid state drives has been designed as an affordable, performance-based storage solution, according to the company. The drives have been designed using the new Indilinx controller, increasing their performance and consequently providing the
end-user with an enhanced computing experience that includes faster application loading, improved data access, faster boot-ups and longer battery life.

“Though SLC has traditionally been more expensive than MLC flash there are both performance and lifespan advantages to SLC based solid state drives, it is for consumers that require the extended reliability of single level cell flash that we are now introducing the Agility EX series of SSDs,” commented Eugene Chang, VP of Product Management at the OCZ Technology Group. “The Agility EX offers consumers the most cost effective SLC solid state storage solution on the market, and when customers take all the benefits of SLC into consideration the total cost of ownership of these drives truly shines through.”

The new 2.5-inch solid state drives can deliver the increased performance of traditional SLC drives, providing customers with a high-end computing experience. They are available in capacities of 60GB and boast 64MB of onboard cache. As far as performances go, the new Agility EX Series can deliver speeds of up to 255MB/s read and up to 195MB/s write, with a sustained write speed of up to 100MB/s.

According to the company, the new Agility EX series will initially be made available with an MSRP of US$399 and a 3-year warranty. The drives should soon be made available to customers worldwide.
