Memory and cooling expert OCZ has just introduced the newest OCZ PC2-8500 Reaper HPC 4GB, one the fastest high density kits in the world. The company tries to mix the need for more and more memory with its ability to overclock at higher frequencies.

The new PC2-8500 4GB Reaper HPC series comes with an innovative cooling solution to dissipate the excessive heat that accumulates especially when overclocked. The memory module features a thermo-conductive copper heat pipe that dissipates heat more effectively than the classic heatspreaders shielding the memory modules. Moreover, the new heatspreaders are painted all-black, which makes it the ideal pick for case-modders and system builders.

"DDR2 is starting to adopt 1066 MHz as the new mainstream frequency, not only for extreme overclocking but also for high system memory densities," commented Dr. Michael Schuette, VP of Technology Development at OCZ Technology. "In order to maximize the system performance, especially in the latest games, 4GB of memory are more and more becoming a must have?but it is also necessary to maintain the throughput regardless of the increase in density".

The Reaper HPC series can be overclocked out-of-the-box, thanks to the Enhanced Performance Profiles (EPP), that are programmed into the SPD. EPP simplifies the overclocking process, and allows non-professionals take advantage of higher speeds. Of course, enthusiasts will be able to squeeze more performance by manually tuning these memory modules.

"The new PC2-8500 Reaper HPC 4GB kits combine the best of two worlds by delivering extreme bandwidth at 1066 MHz data frequency at 5-5-5 latencies, in combination with advanced heatpipe-based thermal management to again raise the bar for high system memory densities," continued Schuette.

The PC2-8500 Reaper HPC Series will hit the market in Dual Channel Kits with 2x2048MB memory modules. They will work at a stock speed of 1066 MHz and will deliver clock latencies of 5-5-5. There is no word on pricing and availability yet, but since the modules are aimed at the enthusiast market, don't dream of getting too much of a bargain.
