O2 has announced the launch of the O2 Xda Argon Pocket PC Edition handset. Although with an impressive appearance, it failed to live up to the expectations of those that were waiting for its release. The main reason for that was the low standard of its specifications. Most of them comply with the basic needs of a phone owner, leaving aside the latest developments in the mobile phone industry.

The phone is quite large, as it measures 129.7x69.8x18.8 mm and a bit heavy at its 200 grams. It does have one impressive feature that is meant to capture the special interest of those that intend to buy such a handset. O2 Xda Argon is equipped with a huge 3.5 inch touch screen display, which will definitely turn out as being its most appealing feature.

At first sight, the phone seems to have very high capabilities, probably due to the impressive touch screen, which actually is a 65k colour display. Aside from that, O2 Xda Argon has few special talents. It encloses a 2 Megapixel camera and supports both polyphonic and MP3 sounds. Connectivity is available through Bluetooth and WLAN Internet access and downloading.

Moreover, this device is capable of sustaining applications such as Windows Mobile 5, Microsoft push email and Internet Explorer. That is quite disappointing, as all these features have been surpassed by the Windows Mobile 6 release, as well as by solutions for faster and more reliable Internet services than those that a WLAN connection provides.

This handset is meant to replace Xda 1.1, the Trion, as Argon sustains. It is currently available for free only by subscription, with a 2 year warranty.
