Mobile phone users in the UK now have two new handsets to choose from on the airwaves of O2 UK, namely the HTC Desire and HTC Smart. Both phones are appealing solutions, each of them being targeted at a specific market segment. The HTC Desire comes as a high-end Android-based device, while the HTC Smart is a rather affordable phone powered by Qualcomm's Brew MP operating system. Both devices can be seen on the carrier's website.

The HTC Desire sports a 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen display that can deliver a 480 x 800 (WVGA) pixel resolution, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor complemented by 512 MB of ROM and 576 MB of RAM, a 5-megapixel photo snapper with LED flash, microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32 GB of additional storage space, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connectivity, built-in GPS receiver, and others more. The phone is powered by Google Android 2.1 (Éclair) platform, on top of which HTC has thrown its HTC Sense solution.

As for the second new HTC device at O2 UK, the HTC Smart, it is the first phone the company pushes to the market with the Brew MP operating system on board. The OS is meant to bring the smartphone segment to more users, by making the handsets more affordable than before. The Smart boasts a 2.8-inch touchscreen display, a 3-megapixel photo snapper, 3.5 mm stereo audio jack, Bluetooth, 3G connectivity, microSD memory card slot, and a 1100 mAh battery.

The same as Desire, the HTC Smart comes pre-loaded with HTC's Sense user experience. The solution revolves around three main principles, Stay Close, Make it Mine and Discover the Unexpected, and was designed so as to offer a more natural way to interact with the handset. Users will find it easy to connect to friends via various communications channels, including call, text, email or social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. The Sense UI brings all communications in a single view so that users can benefit from an enhanced experience.
