Wireless carrier O2 announced on Tuesday the launch of a new application for its iPhone users, My O2, which enables them to keep an eye on how much they spend on their phone. According to the carrier, the My O2 section that users can access on O2’s website provides information on all sections of a consumer's account and can be accessed via SMS or online.

However, the new application is set to deliver all the necessary information in a way that has been specifically designed for the iPhone users. The new My O2 application offers O2 Pay & Go and Pay Monthly iPhone users the possibility to see details on their tariffs, a summary of their inclusive allowance, the latest bill, and a lot of other things.

“Our customers want to stay in control of how much they spend whenever they like. The My O2 iPhone app allows them to do this with the minimum of fuss,” said Sally Cowdry, marketing director for O2. “We wanted to make this information as easy to view as possible. This is all part of our commitment to a great customer experience and we’ll be looking at rolling this out to other phones in the near future.”

The new application, the carrier states, has been developed in collaboration with Mobile Interactive Group (MIG). According to Ben Cusack, group creative director at MIG, the software solution has been designed so as to enable its deployment on other smartphones too, as well as to allow for additional features to be included in the near future.

“The My O2 application allows the iPhone customer base to benefit from having details of their account on their handset,” he added. The application needs an Internet connection and, although it will show the latest billing information, it might show it 12 hours behind real time. O2 iPhone customers interested in using the new My O2 application will find it available for download for free on the Apple App Store, as well as from Softpedia, via this link.
