UK mobile phone network O2 is preparing to launch its new smartphone, the XDA IQ.

The IQ includes a quad-band (850/900/1800/1900MHz) GSM/GPRS radio with EDGE
support. The smartphone was designed in the traditional candybar form-factor rather than the more PDA-styled devices as it was expected. XDA IQ weighs only 110 grams and measures about 10.9 x 4.7 x 1.9 cm. The phone also features Bluetooth 1.2 and 802.11b Wi-Fi wireless connectivity on board.

As many of us expected, the handset is based on a 200MHz Texas Instruments OMAP 850 processor running Windows Mobile 5.0, featuring 64MB of SDRAM and 64MB of ROM. The display is a 2.2 inch, 240 x 320 pixel resolution, 65k colour, and of course it has a nice 1.3 megapixel camera. The XDA IQ ships with an 1150mAh battery, which seems to be sufficient for up to four hours talk time and up to 150 hours operation in stand-by mode.

Unfortunately, O2 didn't disclose any information about the price or its launch date, and preferred to refer to it by saying it's coming "very soon".
