During a press conference, O2 Germany has announced that it will be releasing its own versions of two new HTC handhelds, until now known as the Herald and the Elf.

On O2 they will be released as the XDA "terra" and "nova". The HTC Herald, that is already available on the market will be offered by O2 as the XDA terra with somewhat of an upgrade, running Windows Mobile 6.

This of course will somewhat affect other carriers that are currently offering the Herald, since most users will now prefer to get themselves a terra. All other features remain the same and the handheld comes with a QWERTY keyboard as most devices of this type, support for GMS/GPRS/EDGE (although O2 Germany's network doesn't currently provide EDGE support) and a 2 megapixel camera on the back.

The XDA nova will also come powered by Windows Mobile 6, feature quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE, Bluetooth for connectivity, WiFi, 128 MB RAM and 64MB ROM. It will be powered by a TI OMAP processor running at 200 Mhz, include a 2.8 inch 65k color screen, a 2 megapixel camera and a MicroSD card slot for memory expansion.

The XDA terra will be replacing the Xda mini S (also known as the HTC Wizard) and become available during may for a subsidized price of 150 Euro on a 2 year contract, while the Xda nova will be slightly more affordable, at 100 Euro on a two year contract. No details were given on what price the devices might have without subscription. Also, this is not a sure thing, in the near future O2 UK might also be offering the two handsets.
