O2 Germany has now started selling and shipping its latest handheld, the Xda Terra, which is the first device to be commercially available running Windows Mobile 6 Professional (formerly Pocket PC Edition).

This does not include the WM6 updates that have already become available for several devices. The mobile operator was also the first in the world to sell a Windows Mobile-powered Pocket PC Phone Edition handset, so it's not surprising that it would offer the first handset running WM6 Professional as well.

A re-brand of HTC's Herald, the Terra, looks the same and brings the same features. It includes support for quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as WiFi and Bluetooth for connectivity.

Also present is the usual QWERTY keyboard providing a fast and efficient way for sending messages and browsing the web. A 2-megapixel camera and media player will ensure that its user can enjoy the handset in his/her spare time as well.

What else should you expect? The usual software for viewing/editing mobile Office documents, web browser, email and a very large color screen perfect for viewing slideshows and videos.

The XDA Terra is now available on O2 Germany, for a price starting at ?79.99 which of course means the user will have to sign a contract with the mobile operator. People that aren't very enthusiastic about contracts will be able to get a standalone handset for around ?519.99. US customers will also be able to get one of these handsets running the new OS very soon, as the HTC Herald is already on its way to T-Mobile, after being approved by the FCC.
