British filmmaker Joshua Newton is now working on a $65 million (€50.1 million) thriller focusing on the events preceding and in the aftermath of the infamous O.J. Simpson murder trial. Actress Charlotte Kirk has been cast as Nicole Brown Simpson, who was killed with friend Ron Goldman on that fateful night.

The Wrap confirms Kirk’s casting, noting that the film, called “An American Mystery,” will surely prove controversial upon release particularly because of the director’s claims that he will also provide new details about the murder and subsequent trial.

“Newton claims to have discovered startling new evidence in the sensational case, which featured a gruesome crime scene, an infamous car chase, a celebrity defendant and a televised trial fraught with racial sensitivity that was the most viewed judicial proceeding in the history of American television,” the movie publication writes.

“It could be ready for release next summer, in time for the 20-year anniversary of the infamous 1994 crime,” adds the same media outlet.
