On February 5, staff at Zoo Miami in the state of Florida in the United States welcomed a Nyala calf.

When it was just a week old, the baby herbivore had a very close encounter with the facility's vet, who gave it all the required shots and examined it.

According to Zoo Borns, the calf is a female. It is in perfectly good health, and does not seem to mind interacting with people. Hence the fact that it stood almost perfectly still while being vaccinated.

Zoo employees in charge of looking over the Nyala calf and monitoring its growth say that, presently, the tiny creature weighs merely 13 pounds.

It will however gain a considerable amount of weight in the months to come, and might end up tipping the scale at somewhere between 120 to 300 pounds (54.4 to 136 kilograms) once it becomes an adult.

For those unaware, this species of antelopes is native to southern Africa.

For the time being, it is not in danger of going extinct, yet conservationists are a bit worried about the fact that the expansion of human society is causing it to lose fairly big patches of its natural habitat.
