Nvidia's Shield tablet is a rare breed. It allows owners to play Android games, but it also enables them to play popular PC titles through streaming. This is one of the features that made the Shield an interesting tablet for gamers, and Nvidia probably knows that.

The latest major software update released by Nvdia for the Shield tablet brings even more PC games to the list of streamed PC games, for free. For those who don't know, Nvidia usually adds new games each week on Tuesday. Obviously, you won't need a PC to play them, just your Nvidia Shield tablet and a good Internet connection.

According to Nvidia, they are adding new games weekly, so expect more of these to come in the coming days. Until then though, Nvidia has announced that Lego Harry Potter Years 5-7, PixelJunk Shooter and Grid 2 among others will be available for play for free, as soon as update 2.2 is applied.

But that's not the only addition made via this upgrade. Some standby battery life improvements have been included in the update as well. Nvidia claims that the update should add improved battery life in standby/idle conditions, especially with Wi-Fi turned on.

Charging and overall experience enhancements

Furthermore, improved charging performance and compatibility have been added too, so Nvidia Shield owners can expect broader support for high performance chargers.

Overall experience enhancements have been mentioned in the changelog as well. Additional UI responsiveness and memory optimizations, along graphics corruption resolution fixes, have also been implemented.

Last but not least, support for SHIELD Hub 4.1 has also been added, which includes GameStream multi-controller support.

Nvidia has already started the roll out of Shield tablet software upgrade 2.2, so you can check for it and install it to take advantage of these new features and improvements.
