The Android-powered handheld costs $349 (around €269)

Nvidia has confirmed that its Project Shield handheld platform is officially called Shield and will be released in June in North America for $349 (around €269). Those interested in the new device can place a pre-order on May 20.

Nvidia impressed a lot of gamers at the beginning of the year when it revealed to the world Project Shield, a lightweight portable console that's powered by Android and can play not just Android games or apps, but also PC games, through a new streaming technology made by the company.

Now, Nvidia has confirmed that Shield will be released in June in North America for $349 (around 269 EUR).

Fans who signed up for the "Notify Me" newsletter can already pre-order the console, while the general public can place their orders starting on May 20, according to Nvidia.

The company posted a list of the main features included in Shield, so check them out below.

As of yet, it's unclear when Nvidia will release Shield in Europe and in other parts of the world.
