Good news for Android gamers who decided to go for Nvidia's SHIELD tablet, as the company has just announced it has kicked off the rollout of Android 5.1 Lollipop update.

Nvidia SHIELD runs Android 5.0 Lollipop since late November when the tablet was upgraded. It was one of the first tablets to receive the new version of the operating system and is now one of the first to get Android 5.1 Lollipop.

According to Nvidia, the latest Android update for its SHIELD tablet is about 200MB in size and is pushed OTA (over the air), in stages. This means that it might take a few days until it reaches all tablets.

If you haven't been notified on the update, then you can manually check for it in the Settings menu, but if it's not yet available you can try later on.

Along with the Android 5.1 Lollipop announcement, Nvidia also confirmed some of the most important changes included in the update.

Apart from bringing the tablet's software to Android 5.1 Lollipop, the update also improves performance and responsiveness. In addition, it adds support for Android for Work, as well as other enhanced security features and services.

Android 5.1 Lollipop also brings a new firmware update for SHIELD controller

Nvidia also did some improvements to quick-settings menu, profile management and other areas. The display performance has been enhanced too. There's also a new Global Tone Mapping feature which is enabled by default. Nvidia SHIELD Tablet owners can toggle this feature on and off as they wish.

But there's more. Nvidia also confirmed that there's a new firmware update for SHIELD controller, which is supposed to improve pairing experience. It should also make some other optimizations.

Keep in mind that you can update the SHIELD controller over Wi-Fi, you just need to look out for a notification on your SHIELD tablet.

Last but not least, some system wide improvements including camera, audio, modem (LTE only) and other fixes have been implemented too.

Both Nvidia SHIELD tablets (Wi-Fi only and LTE) should receive Android 5.1 Lollipop update in the next couple of days.
