Nvidia has announced yesterday, August 13th, the immediate availability for download of the 304.37 version of its graphics driver for Linux, Solaris and FreeBSD operating systems.

Nvidia 304.37 video driver has one of the largest changelogs I've seen in a while. Usually, video drivers come with just a few small updates and support for the newer video cards, but this time Nvidia has outdone itself. It's like they're trying to recuperate the last couple of years.

One of the reasons for this extensive changelog could be the launch of Steam for Linux. Implicitly, a lot of new games will need proper support and Nvidia wants to stay on top of the situation.

Highlights of Nvidia Display Driver 302.17:

• Support for the following GPUs has been added: GeForce GTX 680M, Quadro K1000M, Quadro K2000M, Tesla K10; • The ability to enable SLI on GPUs with ECC enabled has been removed; • A bug that would cause corruption and performance issues in certain OpenGL applications such as Amnesia: The Dark Descent on GeForce 6 and 7 GPUs, has been repaired; • A bug that caused applications that use DirectColor visuals, such as Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and Braid, to appear in shades of blue instead of the correct colors, has been fixed; • A problem where RENDER Glyphs operations would exhibit severe performance issues in certain cases, such as when used with gradients by Cairo and Chromium, has been fixed; • Support for FXAA, Fast Approximate Anti-Aliasing, has been added; • A bug that could cause G8x, G9x, and GT2xx GPUs to display a black screen or corruption after waking up from suspend, has been fixed.
