In an attempt of getting rid of old stocks, European hardware retailers have started selling the GeForce GTX 480 graphics card, one of Nvidia's first solutions based on the Fermi architecture, for as low as €200.

This is the lowest price that the GeForce GTX 480 has ever reached in Europe and makes it an interesting deal for those looking for a GPU that can deliver similar performance with the GTX 570 or HD 6970.

The good news is that the GTX 480 is about 20 percent cheaper than both of these cards, as their pricing starts at €234.90 and €241.64, respectively.

Furthermore, consumers also have the option of choosing a factory-overclocked GTX 480, like the Zotac GeForce GTX 480 AMP! Edition, which has a starting price of just €210.71.

However, users who want to go this route will have to bear in mind that the GTX 480 is well known for its high power consumption and noise, so what you might gain in terms of initial costs you may end up paying for electricity in the long run.

Nvidia' GeForce GTX 480 was introduced in April of 2010, together with the GTX 470, and was the first of the company's graphics cards to be based on the Fermi architecture.

At its heart stands the GF100 core that includes 480 stream processors, 60 texture units, 48 ROP units and a 384-bit wide memory interface that connects to 1.5GB of GDDR5 video buffer. This is clocked at 924MHz (3696MHz data rate), while the GPU sports a core clock of 700MHz.

In April of 2011, the price of the GeForce GTX 480 was set at a whopping €499, a price that is now reserved for Nvidia's new single-GPU flagship, the GTX 580. (via Fudzilla)
