G80 cards will not be overclocked by GPU integrators

Nvidia has reached the decision of forbidding the overclocking of G80 based cards. They say that because the PCB has a very complicated structure due to the large amount of power needed for GPU and memory use, any attempt to factory overclock the card beyond the specifications could result in power lines on the PCB failing to deliver and in extreme cases could burn the card.

Several Nvidia integrators coming from the high-end area such as XFX BFG, eVGA and Gainward have asked Nvidia's permission to release factory overclocked cards but received no favorable answer. In fact, Nvidia denied them the permission to use modified bioses in order to overclock the cards, even when it came to water cooled cards. And may I say that they are not happy at all with Nvidia's decision but no one risks doing otherwise since G80 stocks are already pretty limited. It's a game of "do that and you will suffer the consequences" that no one has the guts to play. For now.

As for the overclocking itself, coolbits.reg remains the only working solution to that as long as factory overclocking remains banned. That of course doesn't mean that you can't override bios values for the GPU and memory but by that you risk losing the warranty.
