No numbers needed for these amazing designs

Tired of Numbers is the name of one of the most alluring projects for desktop gadgets from Mac Funamizu. And even more than this, the name couldn't be closer to the truth, as its final goal, to replace numbers for good, has been reached. The Tired of Numbers is a duo of desktop toys: a hygrometer and a thermometer, two thingies that are mandatory for the office of any guy with true self respect. So, what's with the "no numbers" thing, you might ask. Mac Funamizu looks like he's grown sick of all the classic displays and all the lettering and numbering and complex dials... and he decided that they had to be replaced.

Well, for the rest of us, replacing the numbers with something else without diminishing the info that must pass on sounds very difficult and even a bit crazy.

A hygrometer as easy to read as it gets

Funamizu's point of view states the opposite, at least when it comes to creating a way to communicate the values of certain parameters without numbers. And since in order to do so you must definitely use symbols, what better symbol for humidity than water itself? The Tired of Numbers hygrometer looks like a water tank with transparent walls and three markings depicting the 25, 50 and 75% levels. If the humidity value is high – the water level will also be raised; it's all ultra-intuitive and easy to read.

Big blob equals 10 degrees, small blob equals 1 degree. No numbers!

The thermometer looks also nice, with a large red blob for every 10 degrees and additional smaller ones for each degree increment. And once you know this little secret, the numberless thermometer can be read from a distance – one thing you could never do with your old traditional thermometer, unless you had superpowers.

Now, some say that these altogether cool gadget projects have come some 15 years too late as they've missed the lava-lamp era and all the other colorful decorative thingies. We'd say that a design-conscious modern interior could still accommodate these two stunning instruments with ease and create an even richer and refined décor.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
