As surprising as it sounds, the pen can be attached to a CNC machine

CNC stands for computer numerical control and defines the automation of machine tools by means of a computer interface. You wouldn't think a pen would fit the category, but the 3Doodler has just shown that there's a first time for everything.

Then again, 3Doodler isn't a normal pen. Instead of ink, it uses plastic sticks, and instead of writing words, it draws and builds things from plastic, even in the air.

Basically, it's a pen you use to 3D print whatever you can think of, one line at a time.

But the folks at WobbleWorks felt that there was more they could make the pen do, so they thought “Hey! Let's make it so you don't actually have to hold it at all!”

So they did just that. They made a mounting dock that attaches it to a CNC machine. You can use another port to control the speed buttons remotely and manipulate extrusion without touching the device at all.

A silicon tip cover has been made as well, which protects fingers from the heated metal extruder.
