Apple is yet to announce availability of the white version of its controversial iPhone 4, yet one person was able to acquire one through friends working at Apple. In fact, this person claims to have been told that the Apple HQ in Cupertino is brimming with white iPhones.

As the story goes, a person spotted by pocket-lint.com at a press event in New York City was holding the elusive white handset in an elevator.

The site’s editors were able to take a few shots of the device in action, and proceeded to ask the mysterious gentleman about the device. Particularly, the man was asked how he’d gotten hold of it.

As it turns out, the guy “had a mate that ‘fixed him up’ with his,” the report notes.

Yet the entire world is yet to see but one such iPhone 4 in the wild. So, it begs the question: “Why then, have you not been able to queue outside the Apple store of your choice to get one?”, the site notes.

According to the person holding the white iPhone 4, “Apple is having trouble getting its two suppliers in the Far East to match the white used in the manufacturing of the parts.”

Apparently, there are two different shades of white on the original batch of white iPhone 4s, with the home button not matching the front plate.

Apple wants everything in tone (obviously), therefore has been forced to delay the launch of the device, in order to meet this self-imposed standard.

It was also reported in the past that the back plate of the handset reportedly leaked light as the phone would turn on its screen. Such a flaw would also have to be addressed ahead of the phone’s public launch.
