After exactly 9 months of hard work, the Ark Linux development team is proud to announce the immediate availability of Ark Linux 2008.1 and Ark Linux Live 2008.1, a version that brings KDE 3.5.9, the latest 2.6.25.3 Linux kernel, Wine 1.0 RC1, lots of bug fixes and improvements.

The Ark Linux team decided to drop yet another stable system build with GCC 4.3 and powered by the latest stable version of KDE, 3.5.9. Not only that but, because it is now entirely build with GCC 4.3, it is more effective than previous versions build with GCC 4.2.1. Moreover, this release comes with better hardware detection and the following updated/new software:

■ Linux kernel 2.6.25.3 ■ KDE 3.5.9 ■ Wine 1.0 RC1 ■ glibc 2.8 ■ gcc 4.3.0 ■ Gnash 0.8.2 ■ OpenOffice.org 2.4.0

Beside the default Ark Linux 2008.1 installation disc and the Ark Linux 2008.1 Live CD, you will also find the following add-on CDs:

■ Ark Extra Software ■ Ark Server Software ■ Ark Development Suite ■ Ark Extra Languages ■ Ark Games Entertainment

For the next release, which will come pretty soon, the team will prepare a version entirely based on KDE 4.1.

Ark Linux is a GNU/Linux distribution designed especially for desktop use. It is easy to handle even by people without a Linux background experience, while still powerful enough for experienced users. The main goals of Ark Linux are:

■ be easy to learn and use ■ include all the tools and applications the typical desktop user would need ■ avoid becoming "bloated" ■ make the installation of additional software as easy and fast as possible ■ be a technically sane development environment

Ark Linux also benefits of a Live CD, which means it can be booted directly from the media, without requiring installation.
