People are encouraged to give their garbage another life

Non-profit organization Keep America Beautiful and its partners are getting ready for a very special celebration: America Recycles Day. This year, America Recycles Day is scheduled to take place on Friday, November 15.

The purpose of the holiday is pretty straightforward, meaning that all Keep America Beautiful wants is to convince people living in the United States to quit throwing away things they no longer need or want, and opt for recycling them instead.

“Through our education programs and collection events taking place in communities across the country, Keep America Beautiful, its affiliate network and partners are raising awareness about what is recyclable and what material can become when recycled and given a new life,” says Brenda Pulley with the organization.

Digital Journal tells us that, according to several reports, merely 35% of the waste produced in the United States on a yearly basis is recycled.

Seeing how the average person living in this country produces about 4.4 pounds of trash daily, it's no wonder that green groups are trying their best to up national recycling rates.

The best thing about this celebration is that, of the people who take the pledge to become more environmentally conscious, ten can win a park bench made of recycled materials alone. If this isn't a good enough reason to get behind this campaign, than I don't know what is.

Head over to the official website for America Recycles Day to learn more about this project, and feel free to spread the word about this eco-friendly national holiday.
